The Authority of the Bible in the Dialogue of Religious Pluralism in Indonesia

Indonesia’s high level of religious pluralism presents significant challenges for Christians in maintaining the authority of Scripture within interfaith dialogue. This study aims to examine how biblical authority can be upheld both theologically and contextually in the practice of religious dialogue in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative library research approach, this study analyzes biblical texts and relevant theological literature concerning the authority of Scripture and religious pluralism. The findings indicate that biblical authority, grounded in the principles of Sola Scriptura, divine inspiration, and scriptural normativity, remains the foundational basis of Christian faith amid pluralistic relativism and postmodern influences. Interfaith dialogue, therefore, does not necessitate the dilution of Christian identity, but can be conducted on the basis of justice, love, and faithful witness rooted in Scripture. Accordingly, the church is called to remain steadfast in biblical truth while actively contributing to social harmony within Indonesia’s religiously diverse society.
